Canadian Centre for Accreditation

Youth Justice Services

CCA supports providers of youth justice services to meet new challenges and excel through standards that reflect best practices in community-based operations, services and programs.

Accreditation with CCA positions organizations that offer youth justice community services to keep pace with accountability expectations and lead when it comes to service quality.

The right fit

Who should choose this program?

The standards are geared to organizations that offer youth justice services in a community setting to young persons in conflict with the law or at risk of conflict with the law. They are suited to organizations that have community-based non-residential programs, residential programs, and/or programs that support reintegration of young persons from custody into the community.

Organizations are asked to meet a common set of Organizational Standards, as well as standards specific to their youth justice programs and services.

The Organizational Standards look at the whole organization, and cover things like governance, management, planning and evaluation, quality improvement, and important risk management functions. The standards also look for person-centred services, a strength-based approach, accessibility of services, and engagement and responsiveness to the communities served.

The Youth Justice Services Standards apply to the organization’s community-based youth justice programs and services. The module assesses areas such as service approach, assessment and service planning, continuity and coordination of services, and the integration of knowledge and evidence into program and service planning and delivery. It looks for a proactive approach to client, staff and community safety.

Engagement of  the Sector

The standards were developed with the input of a diverse cross-section of leaders in youth justice, including representatives from Youth Justice Ontario, the research community and providers of justice services in urban and rural settings.
